India IPO GMP and subscription data as JSON: what the numbers mean and how to get them

Indian IPO coverage runs on two numbers that no exchange publishes: the grey market premium (GMP), the unofficial price at which IPO shares change hands before listing, and the subscription multiple, how many times each investor category has bid for the shares on offer. Both are published by independent IPO sites and change many times a day while an issue is open. This guide explains what the figures mean, where they come from and how to pull them, together with the IPO calendar and listing results, as structured JSON.

The figures, explained

Volumes (measured 18 October 2026)

A live GMP report has about 30 to 50 rows (every upcoming, open and recently listed IPO), the calendar about 30, and the year-to-date subscription, IPO-list, current-IPO and listing-performance reports about 280 to 300 rows each. GMP moves most during bidding hours (9:00 to 15:30 IST) and is worth polling every 30 minutes then; the calendar changes daily.

How to pull it

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/data_daemon~india-ipo-tracker/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"reports": ["gmp", "subscription"], "category": "all"}'

Every record carries the same stable slug (for example paras-healthcare-ipo), so GMP, subscription, calendar and listing rows join without fuzzy name matching; subscription, list and listing rows also carry ISIN and exchange symbols for joining to a security master. The category filter restricts to mainboard or SME issues. Runs finish in under 30 seconds.

What it costs

$3 per 1,000 report rows and $15 per 1,000 IPO detail pages. The default run (live GMP plus calendar, about 80 rows) costs about $0.25; a full year-to-date snapshot with subscription and current IPOs about $2; a broker app polling GMP every 30 minutes during bidding hours about $2 per trading day.

Questions and answers

What is the grey market premium of an IPO?

The unofficial premium over the issue price at which IPO shares are traded before listing, quoted by grey-market dealers and published by IPO tracking sites. A GMP of ₹60 on a ₹300 issue price means dealers expect a listing near ₹360 (20%). It is sentiment, not a guarantee, and the GMP-performance report shows how often it was right.

Where does the subscription data come from?

From the bid data BSE and NSE publish while an issue is open, as compiled by the IPO report sites the API reads. The API returns QIB, sNII, bNII, NII, retail, employee, shareholder and total multiples plus application counts.

Does it cover SME IPOs?

Yes, mainboard and SME issues on both exchanges, with a category filter for either.

Is there an official API for GMP?

No. Exchanges do not publish grey-market data. Official broker APIs (for example Upstox's) publish the IPO calendar and some subscription figures, but not GMP; this API joins GMP and subscription in one feed with a common key.

Is this investment advice?

No. GMP is an unofficial indicator; the data is provided for information and research.
